MANUMED is a project to enhance the written and intangible heritage of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The project Manumed aims to:

• Improve the knowledge and conservation of documentary collections (manuscripts, books...) in the Maghreb and the Mashreq.

• Preserve the diversity of linguistic and written heritage for better cultural exchanges in the Mediterranean region.

• Raise awareness of artisans of the book from Mediterranean countries and promote their activities from a perspective of sustainable development.

• Involve all local populations and youth in particular in a revival of interest in written and linguistic heritage through efforts both dynamic and tailored to each audience, in a spirit of encounter and exchange of Mediterranean cultures.

More specifically the project Manumed performs the following activities:

• Awareness tools and continuing education for professionals of libraries and archives (cataloging of manuscripts, standards of library and archival description, digitization, preservation, restoration, legal aspects...)

• Improved access to collections of documentary heritage, especially through assistance with the publication of inventories and catalogs, and also with the use of new technologies for information and communication.

• Preservation and enhancement of the diversity of Mediterranean writings and languages (localization and valorization of collections of Mediterranean interest in Europe, the Maghreb and the Mashreq; organization of exhibitions, establishing an operation for "sponsorship of Mediterranean manuscripts", publications ...)

• Raising the awareness and engagement of populations, particularly youth, of written and linguistic heritage (creation of a video game - extremely popular youth recreation - that followed the organization of a contest of scenarios intended for Mediterranean teens).

• Valorization and media coverage of book artisans (census of book artisans in Mediterranean countries and creation of a label "artisan of the book - living treasure of the Mediterranean ").
